The President of the National House of Chiefs, Togbe Afede XIV, has said he is not against the creation of the planned Oti Region from the Volta Region.
In a bid to clarify his description of the work of the Commission of Inquiry set up to investigate the substantial demand for the creation of the new regions as shoddy, Togbe Afede who is also Agbogbomefia of the Asogli State in the Volta region said: “For the avoidance of doubt, let me state it categorically, Togbe is not against the creation of new regions.”
“People should not divert attention from the truth of what I am looking at and claim I’m against the creation of new regions, no I am not against it, otherwise, I wouldn’t have invited Dan Botwe myself to let him know the issues involved and how to carry all of Volta Along. Questions about the name, the boundary, the capital and the message that will go with it. I’ve tried to support a smooth process for the realization of the government’s objective,” he told Accra based Citi FM.
The clarification followed government’s description of the Togbe Afede’s claims as groundless.
Consulted more any citizen
The Ministry of Regional Reorganization and Development debunked claims of Togbe Afede noting that it found them baffling.
According to the Ministry, Togbe Afede was consulted perhaps more than any other Ghanaian on the creation of the regions.
The Ministry said the commission adhered strictly to the provisions outlined in the 1992 constitution of Ghana relating to the creation of regions and that government “is thus satisfied with the manner in which the commission conducted its work and the subsequent report submitted.”
