The Member of Parliament for Tamale South, Haruna Iddrisu, has acknowledged the efforts of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo-Dampare, during the elections but expressed dissatisfaction with aspects of his performance.

In an interview on TV3’s Ghana Decides, the Member of Parliament for Tamale South commended the police service for their role in maintaining peace and ensuring a relatively low crime rate during the electoral process.

“Inspector General of Police, George Akuffo-Dampare, performed satisfactorily before and during the elections.

He has done his best; at least there is peace in the country, and crime is low. However, I am not entirely satisfied with some aspects of his performance during the elections,” he noted.

Haruna Iddrisu specifically praised the police for arresting individuals who caused disturbances at polling stations in Nyankpala. He emphasized that people found carrying weapons had no justification for bringing them to polling stations.

“Why would anyone go to a polling station with a weapon? Go, vote, and return home peacefully.”
