Contrary to what some Ghanaians have described as a shambolic performance in the country’s fight against the outbreak of the Novel Coronavirus, a renowned Ghanaian educationist has argued otherwise.

According to the founder of GATE Institute, Anis Haffar, the Akufo-Addo-led administration has exceeded expectations with regards to his actions and decisions in this period of the global health crisis.

In his opinion, it was the expectation of several analysts that the virus which swooped on nations by surprise would devour African countries without hesitation and expose our frail systems but to an appreciable level, the Akufo-Addo government has handled it better than expected.

He averred that despite the fact that government’s efforts so far may not be sufficient enough, it is so far appreciable.

COVID-19 took everybody by surprise and I’m proud in Ghana that we’ve done the best we can it will never be sufficient but it’s enough to get us started…”

However, he was quick to admonish the government of Ghana and Ghanaians not to be complacent with the height we have reached. He fears that to a large extent it could degenerate the current situation into something worse.

“We don’t want to become aloof and thing that we’ve solved the problem, we have not. This virus is going to live with us, it will force us to be hygienic but we can’t let our guards down especially at home…and schools.”
