I’m too old to attack gov’t on radio – Ato Awhoi

A leading member of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) and onetime critic of the former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Kufuor administration, Ato Ahwoi has said he is now old to do active politics.

According to him, though things are not going smoothly as expected in the Mahama-led administration, his age and vast experience do not allow him to criticise the government on radio and in the newspapers.

He explained that he is now old for such talks.

Adding that, he expects the younger crop of activist in the NDC party to take up that role ment if things are going wayward.

“I am now 70 years and old so I have stopped talking. I have handed that to the young ones in the party. Even if I have something to say, I channel that through the young ones to do so. I am done with such things.

“…Gone were the days when I used to criticize the NPP, I was young by then...I am now a retiree so I don’t talk again,” he said.

Speaking on Asempa FM last Friday May 9, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), Mr. Ato Ahwoi admits that the country is facing economic catastrophe.

“There is hardship in this country now; no one can deny that fact but some people make it look like Ex-President Kufuor did everything possible for this country, as if there was no hardship during his era.

“…People are painting late Mills and President Mahama black for Ghana’s economic woes. We must have it in mind that, there is hardship everywhere and that will never end. The whole world is complaining of hardship so let us stop complaining,” he opined.

Mr. Ato Ahwoi recently chaired a six-member advisory committee, to work out the modalities for the establishment of the Ghana Infrastructure Fund (GIF) tasked by the president.
