Suspended General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwabena Agyei Agyepong has described his two-year suspension as unconstitutional.

According to him, the party's constitution has no provisions for such a 'long' suspension.

“Two years is too long a time for the General Secretary to be on suspension.

Our constitution does not provide for that,” he argued. Mr Agyepong was suspended indefinitely along with the Second Vice Chairman, Sammy Crabbe in 2015 after they publicly kicked against the suspension of the National Chairman, Paul Afoko.

This was deemed by the party’s Disciplinary Committee, to be contrary to Article 3(d) of the party’s constitution which demands members to publicly uphold the party’s decisions.

But speaking to the press for the first time over his suspension, Mr Agyepong maintained that he disagrees with the decision of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) to suspend him but “I love the party so I respect that decision”. Responding to a question on whether he missed his job as NPP general secretary, he said, “…Of course, I miss; I do”.

“I got an emphatic mandate in Tamale…the party grass root recognizes my contribution to the party,” he emphasised to Joy News at the NPP'S Extraordinary Delegates Conference in Kumasi.

Mr Agyepong whose Sheik-like appearance at the event intrigued delegates who cheered him on, welcomed recent calls by some persons for him to be reinstated.
