Dr Ellen Boakye, the newly trained medical doctor who swept 10 meritorious awards at the University Of Ghana Medical School, has given shocking revelation on her journey to success.

She indicates that there was a point in time she almost gave up especially at level 400 but persevered and attained what she had always dreamt of.

According to her, the cost of her education including the purchase of course books among other teething challenges nearly threw her off guard.

‘It was difficult living in Accra, I was given GH¢50 per week, things became so difficult when I got to the fourth year at the university. But I got people to talk to and I sat up again and read for my exams. I had a school mother from Yaa Asantewaa who is also a medical doctor now at Tema General Hospital called Genevivie Mensah, she went to University of Ghana Medical school, she actually took me in like a sister and she knew where I was coming from. So I spoke to her and she said it was normal to go through difficulties when one reaches his/her final year, because you do lots of things in final year, and that I should look at where am coming from, I cannot give up, its not even an option. So I guess that really motivated me, but we thank God for everything,’ she remarked on Kumasi-based Abusua Fm.

The former student of the Yaa Asantewaa Girls Senior High School in Kumasi, swept 10 awards from the University Of Ghana Medical School last weekend.

At the Vice-Chancellor’s Academic Award Ceremony held at the Great Hall of the University of Ghana, a total of 156 awards were given to students who excelled during the 2015/2016 academic year.

Out of the 156 awards 86 were won by female students including Dr. Ellen Boakye (medical student) who took home the highest number of award (10 awards).

Also 115 prizes were won by graduates, 16 continuing undergraduates and 25 to post-graduate students,
