Samira Bawumia has denied ever calling President John Mahama names.

The wife of the main opposition New Patriotic Party’s vice-presidential candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, told Joy FM that her comments on a campaign platform about the current administration being incompetent were deliberately “misrepresented” for propaganda purposes.

"We are saying to the NDC that we see you alright. ... You want us to see you, we see you, but we see incompetence, we see you, but we see corruption, we see you, but we see bad management, we see you, but we see bad governance, we see you, but we want change, we see you but we want Ghana to move forward," she told supporters at Akojo Park in Tema recently.

Clarifying her comments, she said: “I spoke on a platform. Everybody heard what I have said. It was live telecast and the sound bites are there. There was deliberate attempt to misrepresent what I said and they said that I had called the president a certain word, based on that people were attacking me—based on a false allegation.”

“It is not so much what I actually said. It is the misrepresentation that people have attached. So, they have not bothered to ascertain the truth of what I have said,” Mrs Bawumia said.

Mrs Bawumia’s “misrepresented” comments attracted the ire of Ghana’s ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Alhaji Saeed Sinare, who said: “If this girl with a mouth like that of crocodile should be offered to me for free to marry, I swear to God I would add the dowry to her and throw her back to her parents.”
