Ashanti Regional Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako has rubbished a publication by the Daily Post Newspaper in its Tuesday October 21, 2014 edition that says all the 122 NPP MP’s contributed Ghc150,000 each towards the NPP’s Tamale congress.

Daily Post published that the NPP Ashanti Regional Chairman on a radio discussion disclosed that he [Wontumi] and Hon. Kennedy Ohene Agyapong contributed Ghc150,000 each towards the Tamale congress, while his colleague Eastern Regional Chairman supported the party with Ghc100,000; thus all the 122 NPP MP’s also contributed Ghc150, 000 each to organize the August 31 Tamale Congress to elect the national executives.

According to the Daily Post publication, it means that all the 122 New Patriotic Party (NPP) Members of Parliament contributed a total sum of ¢183 billion towards the congress.

But reacting to the publication on Okay FM’s Ade Akye Abia Morning Show, Bernard Antwi Boasiako revealed that only he and Hon. Ken Ohene Agyapong contributed Ghc150, 000 each as the Eastern Regional Chairman contributed Ghc100, 000.

He added that all the 121 remaining NPP MP’s rather made a contribution of Ghc150,000 to support the Tamale Congress.

“Daily Post is a liar; I rather paid Ghc150,000 and my brother Kissi, the Eastern Regional Chairman also paid Ghc100,000 and all the NPP MP’s paid Ghc150,000 except Kennedy Ohene Agyapong who also contributed Ghc150,000; and that is the money used for the Tamale Congress in August 31, 2014,” he revealed.

He however admonished the newspaper to focus its write-ups on national issues affecting businesses and living conditions in the country and not on issues pertaining to political parties.

“This is not the issue but rather the issue is that we pay our electricity bills regularly yet there is no regular power supply for businesses to boost; that is what the newspaper should publish for solutions...businesses are collapsing everyday due to the frequent power outages; this is the national issue which needs publication. Daily Post should write about the unemployment situation, the misappropriation of funds meant for development and the rampant corruption being buried in the NDC government,” he urged.
