Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has said contrary to claims by his predecessor Jerry John Rawlings that he sold a lot of state property to himself and his family during his two-term tenure as president from 2001 to 2009, he ( Kufuor) never did.

A letter from Mr Kufuor’s office signed by Dr Kwabena Osei Adubofour on Monday, 28 May 2018, said Mr Kufuor “never divested any state property to himself or his family members”.

The letter was in response to Mr Rawlings’ latest flak against Mr Kufuor and former president John Mahama – whom he described as “evil” and “rogue”, respectively – for destroying the country during their tenures.

Mr Rawlings later, via a statement, withdrew his comment and apologised for it.

Nonetheless, Mr Kufuor clarified in the statement that all “the divestiture of state properties and enterprises that took place during his tenure in office was done legally and according to laid-down procedures, rules, and regulations, and to the utmost benefit of the people of Ghana.”

Mr Kufuor also said at no point in time, during his presidency, did he ever promote tribalism nor used same as the yardstick for appointing or promoting personnel in the security services.
