“I owe Ghanaians the responsibility to ensure peaceful elections”-President Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama on Sunday gave the assurance that his administration would take every constitutional step to ensure peaceful elections on December 7.

“As the President of this country, I owe all Ghanaians the responsibility to ensure effective security and peace before, during and after the general election in December,” he said.

President Mahama said this when he joined members of the Royal House Chapel in their annual “Conventions of Saints” programme in Accra.

The programme, which was organized by the Rev. Sam Korankye Ankrah, the Apostle General of the Royal House Chapel, on the theme:”Eyes have not seen” attracted Christians from all over the country and beyond.

The programme was also attended by Ministers of State, Members of Parliament, public servants and people from other denominations.

President Mahama said Ghana had gained international recognition and his administration would not do anything that would impede the orderly progress and added “I will provide all the logistics that the Electoral Commission and the National Commission on Civic Education and others will demand for peaceful elections.”

He appealed to Ghanaians to continue praying because intercessory prayers had over the years prevented the country from slipping into chaos and anarchy.

“Do not take the peace we as Ghanaians have enjoyed over the years for granted, for this peace is as a result of prayers from our religious leaders and God Himself has granted us his mercies, which we need to continue thanking Him for.”

On the provision of development projects, President Mahama appealed to Ghanaians to be patient while the government worked out the sharing of the national cake to all corners of the country.

“It is not possible for every community to be provided with everything at once, it is a process and if you exercise patience, you will definitely receive your share of development but some will definitely receive before others,” he said.

Rev. Sam Korankye Ankrah said the annual Convention of Saints was meant to share the word of God with people who do not get the opportunity to worship with them on daily and weekly basis.

He said the church had established the “School of Restoration”, where released prisoners are trained to teach prisoners in the country’s prisons.

“The reformed Prisoners are also provided with motorbikes to carry out outreach education programmes in prisons and crime endemic areas,” he said.
