A communication officer and stalwart of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) Stephen Atubiga has confirmed he is contesting to lead the NDC in 2020 and beyond.

He says he is the man the grassroot of the NDC is yearning for.

Speaking to Kwame Tutu on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm, the man who was jailed in 2013 during the 2012 landmark Supreme Court Election petition said, he has been nursing this dream since childhood adding, ‘’It is true that I have that ambition. I had the ambition to serve Ghana at 18 years.’’

He revealed to the host that he had wanted to stage a coup at the age of 18 following the example of former president Rawlings.

He said, the father advised him to rather concentrate on building his political career through the ranks so he will be well refined and go through the democratic processes..

Atubiga said, his posters were designed by his supporters and party stalwarts who believes in his dream.

He said, ‘’I have what it takes to contest and I will give the other contenders a run for their money…My interaction with the party supporters gave me the strength to contest. I know I can deliver, I have a lot to give to mother Ghana and I know I have a lot of things that will change the face politics in Ghana,’’ he said.

He added, ‘’for the first time, a no body is taking up the challenge to run for the presidential slot.’’

When asked his choice of running mate, Atubiga said he will consider former First Lady and 2016 presidential candidate for the National Democratic Party (NDP) as his running mate because he feels, she will be the best.

Meanwhile, he has pledged to put his ambition aside and support former president Mahama should he decided to contest in 2020, in the interest that he is a good brother, even though I did not benefit anything from him.
