I sleep well every night because I know Bawumia will never betray me - Akufo-Addo

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo had nothing but praise for his vice, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, at the unveiling of the vice-presidential candidate of his party, the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh.

Addressing the crowd at the event, which was held at the Kumasi Jubilee Park on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, Akufo-Addo said that he never lost sleep over fears that Vice President Dr. Bawumia, the flagbearer of the NPP, would betray him.

He stated that Bawumia was totally loyal and never took actions that would undermine his authority.

"Bawumia was at the Bank of Ghana when I brought him into politics. He, himself was surprised but he listened to God and agreed to be my running mate.

"Since he joined me, I have not seen him engage in any wrongdoing in all the activities he undertakes. He has been steadfast with me. Our relationship is like that of a father and a son. He tells me the truth, expresses his opinion on issues to me, and he is very knowledgeable," he said in Twi.

The president added, "When I go to bed every evening, I’m never worried about what Bawumia might be doing against me. Nothing like that has happened; he is loyal, straightforward, honest, hardworking, an excellent vice president – the best vice president we have had in our history."
