Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has reiterated his commitment to ensure peaceful elections in December.
He said Ghanaians could not afford to lose the peace they were currently enjoying and that all stakeholders in this year’s election had a duty to ensure peace, before, during, and after the election.
“We may have our differences, but what joins us together is more important. We are one Ghana and I am totally committed to working to ensure peace and unity for the Ghana project,” Nana Addo stated.
The NPP flag bearer made the commitment when he addressed the 12th General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana at Abetifi on Wednesday.
He said the peace that the nation had enjoyed and continued to enjoy must remain intact, unscathed and well “enveloped” for succeeding governments to takeover.
Nana Akuffo-Addo said peace was an essential ingredient for development, and therefore, anything that would undermine it must not be entertained.
Nana Akufo-Addo, pledged to build a prosperous society, which will create opportunities for all citizens, reward creativity, honesty and hard work.
“My goal is to provide transformational leadership where there is discipline and fairness, where people go about their lives in a free and responsible manner, a society where there are safety nets for the vulnerable and decent retirement for the elderly,” he emphasized.
The NPP flag bearer said he was committed to his promise of making secondary education free and urged the church to pray for him to be able to steer the affairs of the state, if he wins the election in December.
He said he would ensure an open society protected by well-resourced and motivated security services and where the rule of law works.
The NPP Flag bearer said Ghana needed an effective leadership, which was honest, competent and determined to deliver.
Nana Akufo-Addo said he was committed to fighting corruption and dedicated to the welfare and wellbeing of Ghanaians.
He admonished all to cherish and protect the precious democratic values, which formed the basis for the unity and progress of Ghana.
The Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, The Right Reverend Professor Martey, urged politicians to be circumspect in their utterances in order not to inflame passions.
