Former Highlife musician turned politician, Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as Kwame A-Plus, has voiced his support for the implementation of a 24-hour economy policy proposed by John Mahama.
According to him, he would implement the policy in his constituency if he comes to power.
I support the 24-hour economy. It is the first thing I would apply in my constituency. I believe that everybody must support the 24-hour economy and stop making fun of it.
Speaking in an interview with Accra-based 3 FM, A-Plus criticised the current system where government agencies are closed on weekends, causing delays and inconveniences for citizens.
He called for continuous operations in government agencies to reduce backlogs and improve efficiency, particularly in services like passport issuance.
He criticised the current system where government agencies are closed on weekends, causing delays and inconveniences for citizens.
“I don't know why I can't do anything on Sundays or Saturdays. Every government agency is closed, so you have to wait.
“And there are people who are looking for passports and because we don't work on Saturdays and Sundays, there's a huge backlog,” he stated.
In addition to advocating for a 24-hour economy, A-Plus said he is actively working to create employment opportunities in his constituency.
These efforts, he says, are part of his commitment to job creation and economic empowerment, even before winning an election.
“Even before we win the election, I've started skill training. Next week we are going to do skill training. We're going to train the youth. We are teaching them how to make shoes, etc
“We are teaching them makeup for beginners, advanced hairdressing, and dressmaking. We are teaching them. We are not only going to take photos and say, we have done this,” he said.
Kwame Asare Obeng, once a supporter of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), became a vocal critic of the administration and announced his intention to run for the seat in September 2023.
He would be going against the incumbent NPP MP, Naana Eyiah Quansah as an independent candidate for the position of Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central in the Central Region.
