Former President John Dramani Mahama has taken the ultimate responsibility for his party’s woeful defeat in the 2016 general elections.

The NDC lost the elections to the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The former President who has been blamed for the party’s loss by a section of NDC members said he accepts blame if it will satisfy people.

“Of course as the general who led us into battle, I take ultimate responsibility for our losing the election and so if it will satisfy those people, blame me for the loss,’ he stated.

Speaking to former appointees who worked under his administration, he called on members of the party to use the defeat as a learning opportunity not to repeat their mistakes.

“Yes we lost; we should have done some things better but let’s use this as a learning opportunity to be able to make sure that we don’t make the same mistakes that we did in 2016…And that is why we need to rally around together as quickly as possible,” he urged.

Mr Mahama further entreated NDC members not to be depressed about their service whilst in office remarking that their performance was ‘outstanding’.

‘We should not feel depressed or feel ashamed about our service in government because it was outstanding. We must continue to defend that legacy of that government,’ he advised.
