I understand Ken Agyapong; he is not a threat – Akufo-Addo

Contrary to calls from members of the New Patriotic Party on the President and leadership to call to order one of their very own, Kennedy Agyapong, following his incessant attacks on the party and its leadership, President Akufo-Addo has said that he is unperturbed and unfazed by the former’s comments.

President Akufo-Addo addressing pressmen on Tuesday July 18 indicated that the MP for Assin despite his ‘harsh’ comments against the party and its members is only seeking to express his views on issues that bother him in governance. According to him, the attacks are not unexpected knowing Ken Agyapong from his many years of working with him.

““Regarding Kennedy Agyapong’s comments, I am not surprised at where he is going. I have been in the same party with Ken for many years and so I understand him and we know ourselves very well…. His comments do not irritate me, we can have different views on different matters and that is fine”.

The President however pointed out his displeasure about Mr. Agyapong’s comments on “negligence of the people of Central Region”. According to him, the statements are untrue and non-factual.

“The statement on the appointments from the Central Region, I will not accept because I don’t believe it is true”, he said.

Kennedy Agyapong has launched several attacks on the ruling NPP government since their assumption of office.

Recent among his doses is the allegation that the President has sidelined the people of Central Region in his ambassadorial appointments. Speaking at the Central Regional Delegates Conference on Sunday, the outspoken politician revealed that, President Akufo-Addo has succeeded in appointing ambassadors across all the regions leaving out the Central Region.

He also insisted that, Members of Parliament from the region have also been sidelined in Akufo-Addo government, except for the few ones who are State Ministers.

“If we don’t speak up the truth the NPP will suffer, we secured 19 seats in this region during December 2016 election. But you see, when it came to appointments see how it’s been done. Don’t let us be afraid to speak the truth which will help the party stay on the right course”.

He has also threatened to expose the party and its members on the somewhat ‘dubious’ means through which they secured votes in the 2016 polls.

According to him, his investments in the party have been overlooked by the party. He argues that he pushed a lot of his resources into the party particularly prior to the 2016 polls for which he deserves some credit. He is however very unhappy at the turn of events; the party he explained is paying more attention rather to non-party members, “Nigerians” and members of the opposition National Democratic Congress.

He also accused some party members of seeking the collapse of his business. “I mean those NPP people who have vowed to collapse my businesses saying they will bring me down…..if they joke, the things I will say in Ghana….the way we won the elections….We did not win the elections on fair grounds. I am warning them for the last time, if they say they will bring me down, I will be the first to bring the NPP down before I am disgraced”.
