The Minority NDC in Parliament ,the Leader of the GCPP, and Dan Lartey have called on the Finance Minister to resign after declaring the International Finance Consortium loan was not worth pursuing. Finance Minister, Yaw Osafo Maafo, has rejected calls for his resignation following the controversy that surrounded the International Finance Consortium (IFC) loan. Mr. Osafo Maafo told the Crusading Guide Newspaper that “you only resign when you have done something wrong, but when you have done nothing wrong, I don’t see why you will resign particularly when your conscience is very clear”.

The Finance Minister explained that approving a loan is different from implementing it. According to Mr. Osafo Maafo , Parliament approved the loan alright but as the Finance Minister, he had to think through the implementation of the loan. Osafo Maafo said the IFC failed to provide him with the demands he made and therefore, based on that, he decided to forgo the loan. “So on that basis if I am saying no with the view to even saving Ghana, I think that people should commend me, but not shout at me to resign”, the Minister said.

He challenged the NDC Minority to state what he had particularly done wrong that would warrant his resignation.
