General Secretary of the biggest opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has revealed that it has never crossed his mind to run for president of Ghana.
“I have not thought about it, so I am surprised about the question. I have not thought about it at all,” he pointed out on Wednesday March 15, 2017.
The party has instituted a probe to determine what led to its defeat in the elections. There is uncertainty within the party if former President Mahama will represent the NDC in the next presidential elections in 2020.
But Mr Nketia said such issues would be determined at the appropriate time and was emphatic that joining the race to lead the party as flag bearer was not part of his immediate plans as he was focused on his current role as General Secretary and would decide on his next move at the end of his tenure.
“I am trying to carry out my current mandate as successfully as I can. When I end that one, I will now begin to think about where to go next, so it has not crossed my mind at all…whether to contest in anything or go and tap my palms or concentrate on my block work,” he told Francis Abban on Starr FM’s Morning Starr.
