I’ve not been arrested – Ken Agyapong

The Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, has denied media publications that he has been arrested by the police in relation to the murder of Ahmed Hussein-Suale, a Tiger Eye PI undercover journalist and close associate of investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas.

Hussein-Suale was killed by unidentified men who were riding on a motorbike on Wednesday, 16 January 2019.

A few months to Hussein-Suale’s murder, Mr Agyapong had told workers at his NET2 TV station to beat up the journalist if he ever stepped foot within his media house’s premises, thus, the numerous calls by his critics on social media for his arrest in connection with the murder.

On Thursday, 17 January 2019, some online publications claimed Mr Agyapong has been picked up for interrogation by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service.

However, the MP stated emphatically on Asempa FM’s Ekosii sen political talk show minutes later that: “I ate ‘ampesi’ and got up to come to this studio. My wife knows that I am coming here. Just as I got here, my wife called me that she has seen a piece of breaking news that I have been arrested”.

Mr Agyapong, who is about travelling to China, said he has neither been invited nor arrested by the police, but noted that he was ever ready to honour any such invitation from the police upon his return from the Asian country.
