Deputy Minister of Power, John Jinapor has revealed that the usual show of love to him during Christmas ocassions has gone down considerably this year following his party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) defeat in the recently held general elections.

According to him, he’s yet to receive a single hamper from institutions and individuals with few days to Christmas, a situation he says is a clear departture from the norm over the years.

The deputy Minister in an interview on Eko Sii Sen show on Asempa FM, was asked by host Kwadwo Asare Baffour Acheampong (KABA) whether he has received any gift yet as the Yuletide approaches, especially as he and his party goes into opposition.

He responded with a long laugh saying…I’ll give you my secretary’s number for you to find out from her. Hmm, the same Ghanaians who will take you up there are the ones who will bring you down. I’ve been through this situation before so I’m not worried. May be you (KABA) are bring me one so I can comfort my soul with it. ”

President Mahama in 2013 issued a directive signed by the Executive Secretary to the President, Dr. Raymond Atuguba, directing all MDAs to desist from using public resources for Christmas and New Year gifts such as hampers during the coming yuletide.

The letter also asked Ministers of State to ensure strict compliance with the directive at all levels of government, adding that “Heads of MDAs which flout the directive would be surcharged with the cost of same to serve as a deterrent to others.”

It is unclear whether that directive is still in force.
