Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has expressed his support for former President John Dramani Mahama following Mahama's victory in the 2024 presidential election.
Speaking during a press conference on Sunday, December 8, 2024, Dr. Bawumia conveyed his respect for the will of the people and his commitment to Ghana's peace and progress.
Reflecting on his campaign and the election outcome, Dr. Bawumia remarked, "I said during the signing of the peace pact that I was sure of two things, Ghana will win, and peace will reign. The people of Ghana have spoken. They have voted for change at this time, and we respect that decision with all humility. I thank God Almighty for how far He has brought me, and I submit to His will."
He emphasised the importance of upholding peace to preserve Ghana’s reputation as a stable and democratic nation, which bolsters global investor confidence.
"These are our most important assets," he stated. "Ghana is more important than our individual political ambitions, and we must always put Ghana first."
Acknowledging the outcome of the elections, Dr. Bawumia highlighted the NPP's efforts to present comprehensive policies and programmes to the electorate, acknowledging that voters sometimes hold different perspectives.
Despite the result not aligning with the party's aspirations, he assured Mahama of his full support to ensure a successful and peaceful transition.
Dr. Bawumia called on his supporters to accept the election results and rally behind the incoming administration. "I want to assure the people of Ghana and the former President, now the President-elect, of my full support," he declared, urging all Ghanaians to prioritise unity and collaboration as the nation moves forward.
