Minister of Environment Science and Technology, Prof. Kwabena Frimpong Boateng says he’s no longer nursing an ambition to occupy the highest office of the land as President.

According to him, he was motivated to contest the NPP Flagbearer race in a bid to become President because science and technology were absent in the national discourse at the time.

Prof. Frimpong-Boateng was one of the 17 Flagbearer aspirants who contested in the historic 2007 NPP primaries to lead the party into the 2008 general elections.

But at the end of the contest, candidate Akufo Addo(now President) emerged the winner.

Speaking on Ekosii sen show monitored by Kasapafmonline.com Prof. Frimpong Boateng stated that he has no regrets for making that move because it yielded positive results.

“Some time ago, I wanted to be the President because the absence of science in our conversation was a bother to me. But now the President has embraced it and he’s given us all the tools that we need to work, building infrastructure, machine centers etc. For the first time in the country’s history, there’s a fund for the construction of a foundry of an industrial scale. When science and technology are improved in Ghana, that’s my satisfaction.

He added: “I don’t regret making that decision because it also opened the eyes of people to know that science is very critical in all spheres of our lives. This world economy is knowledge-based and science and technology-driven.”
