'I was charged GHC2,000 for a gym session because of my body size' - Di Asa winner

Precious Mensah, winner of Atinka TV’s reality show ‘Di Asa’ has recounted how her journey to losing weight turned out more expensive than she thought.

She told Ghanaweb: “It is very expensive trying to lose weight, I recently decided to sign up with a gym and I was asked to pay GHC2,000. How are individuals who do not have a stable job expected to pay such amount?”

Aside the monetary aspect, PM, as the dance queen is affectionately called, lamented how a section of the public wrongfully attack and body-shame plus-size individuals despite their efforts to shed weight.

She also disclosed that several job owners have refused to offer her employment due to the nature of her body.

“I quite remember after completing Senior High School, I went for a job recruitment and the manager who happens to be a woman turned me down due to my size,” she recalled, while emphasizing that fat people can work effectively and efficiently contrary to assertions they are lazy.

Finding the perfect dress that fit her body type has been one of her major issues though. Most of the time, she has to rely on some Ghanaian fashion designers to provide her that perfect outfit.
