Ghanaian musician Rcee has expressed disappointment over not receiving a nomination at the Telecel Ghana Music Awards, stating that the scheme also missed an opportunity to promote Highlife music.
Speaking in an interview on MX24 on April 21, 2026, Rcee mentioned that he was not only speaking for himself, but also for fans of Highlife and the new generation of musicians pushing the genre.
“I will put myself in the shoes of people who listen to my music, people who appreciate Highlife and the new generation of Highlife. I was very disappointed for not getting a nomination and I will also say it was an opportunity for the TGMAs to also propel Highlife to a certain level,” he said.
According to him, both he and the awards scheme lost out because Highlife music could have gained more recognition through the nomination.
“I would say they also miss out, inasmuch as we missed out on the nomination,” he stated.
Rcee further stated that his song, “Agenda”, was one of the records that proved Ghanaians still love Highlife music.

He explained that the song was able to connect with listeners because it blended the old and new sounds of Highlife in a way that appealed to many people.
“To be honest, `Agenda’ is an amazing record and how people connected with the song has to tell you that people really love Highlife,” he shared.
He noted that there is a missing piece in the industry when it comes to connecting older Highlife sounds with modern trends.
“Just that there’s this missing piece that, up and above, I was able to connect. The missing piece of bridging the gap between the new and the old and making sure that everyone would love it,” he said.
Rcee added that if the industry becomes more intentional about promoting Highlife, the genre can compete strongly against other popular sounds.
“If we’re intentional about putting Highlife there, and we have these records that are doing amazing. Last year 2025, Agenda was competing with Amapiano songs, Afrobeats and Hip-hop songs,” he added.
