Deputy Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, Kingsly Francis Ato Cudjoe has denied being chased away by some youth of Ekumfi Eyisam in the Central Region over the weekend.

The minister who was in Eyisam for the annual Akwambo festival was reported to have been chased away by the angry youth. Some media reports suggested that the MP was nearly lynched by the mob.

The youth were said to be agitating over failure on the part of the minister who is also the Member of Parliament for the Ekumfi Constituency to fulfill promises made to them.

He was allegedly attacked at the Durbar grounds of the Akwanbo festival when the minister mounted the podium to speak.

But the Ekumfi MP has stated that he was not chased or attacked at the Durbar grounds as reported by the media.

Speaking on 3FM’s Sunrise morning show on Monday, September 10, Mr. Ato Cudjoe said nothing of the sort happened.

“Nobody chased me into my car; nobody had to whisked me into my car. The only problem that happened which was captured in a video, was after we left the durbar grounds.

“The boys had come to the road connecting to the main road, and they had blocked the road and said they will not allow us to go so the DCE got down to go and speak with the boys and then some exchanges happened between the DCE and the boys of the community, hence the video that was shared on social media. All this while, I was comfortable in my car, no body attempted to attack me, nobody attempted to do anything to me,” he told host Winston Amoah.

He expressed disappoint in the manner in which the issue was reported in the media.

“I am so marveled at the kind of reportage and media personnel we have in this country because, yes, there were skirmishes, there was an incident, but the report that I was nearly lynched, I do not know what the person means by nearly lynched. I was not mobbed and had to be rushed into the car, nothing of that sort happened.”

On the issue of him not fulfilling promises made to his constituents, the Deputy Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture Development Deputy said he did not make any specific promises to the people of Ekumfi.

“I have not promised to build a Secondary School in the community, the community said they have acquired a land and will like me to help them put up a Secondary School,” he said.

He noted that he has so far provided some items for the construction of the said Secondary School.

According to him, the agitation by the youth was masterminded by the opposition NDC to embarrass him and his entourage.
