The founder and leader of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP) Madam Akua Donkor has declared her intention to lead the campaign of Mr. Kofi Portuphy in his bid to contest the chairmanship of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) at a conference which is expected to take place later this year.
According to her, she would apply both orthodox and non-orthodox means to ensure the National Coordinator for the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) became the next chairman of the NDC.
‘’I love Kofi Portuphy he is a kind and experienced politician who could make a big difference in the 2016 general elections.
I have decided to lead his campaign because I see in him, a man who is battle ready to safeguard and ensure a sweet the victory for the NDC.
He is humble, hardworking, and affable, and a serious man who believes in excellence. I believe with this man leading the NDC in future elections would make a lot of difference.’’
Speaking to Radio Gold in Accra, the elated and ever smiling leader of the GFP said though she will contest the NDC in the next elections, her affinity with the ruling government was permanent and cannot be disconnected now.
She said the NDC was a political party that treats everybody equal regardless of clan, tribe, religion, creed or color; it’s a lovely family to be around with.
‘’at least if I don’t win, the alternative is the NDC, therefore it would not be out of place to lead the campaign of a man I have strong believe and faith in, she said.’’
Though the current leadership of the NDC had not fixed a date for the congress to elect new or maintain the old executives, some other influential names have started popping out.
Apart from the NADMO boss’s declaration to contest the chairmanship race, Ghana’s ambassador to Malaysia H.E Dan Abodakpi’s named has also emerged, including the incumbent chairman whom many party supporters feel had not lived up to expectation Dr. Kwabena Adjei.
Mr. Kofi Portuphy has chalked many successes in the political ladder. He established the NADMO and was a founding member of the cadre movement.
He was founding member of the National Mobilization Program (NMP) and also founding member of the June 4th movement and an originator of the National Union of Ghana students (NUGS), Legon.
Madam Akua Donkor indicated that it would be in the interest of the NDC to elect an incumbent vice chairman Mr. Portuphy because the incumbent chairman had not lived up to the utmost expectation.
‘’I will go on radio stations to speak on his behalf, I will walk to every house in any hamlet to explain to the delegates why they must vote for ‘’Uncle Pee,’’
He is a Goodman and I will do everything possible to sacrifice anything to ensure Kofi Portuphy became the chairman of the NDC at its next special delegates congress.
