President John Dramani Mahama has promised to make Tepa in the Ahafo Ano North district of the Ashanti Region a jewelry hub if re-elected as in the December polls.
Addressing residents of the town on Monday, 8 November as part of his campaign tour in the region, Mr Mahama said his government had brought a lot of development to the region despite it being the stronghold of his main competitor the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
“When we decided to come to the Ashanti region, we were told not to bother because it is the stronghold of the NPP, but we are determined to make an impact and will not relent.
The NDC has had an overwhelming reception from the people in the Ashanti Region. Within the four years of my government, I have brought a lot of development to the region and here in Tepa,” he stated.
“We will set up a jewelry village here from the gold we mine. This place will be a jewelry market where tourists can visit to purchase jewelries,” he added.
Earlier, Mr Mahama met the overlord of the Ashanti Region, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and had a closed door meeting with him.
He later addressed residents of Kumasi calling on them to renew the mandate of the NDC in order to continue the numerous infrastructural developments in the region.
