I will not be swayed by Kofi Adams’ hypocrisy - Mahama

Just last week, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, on opening the West Africa Conference on the dreaded Ebola disease, gave a very appropriate proverb.

The axiom was that, “if your neighbors beard is on fire, you better get some water by your side perhaps it gets to your beard.”

It is against this background that President John Mahama has confided in close associates that he will not be deluded or swayed by the recent utterances of Kofi Adams, the spokesperson for Ghana’s ex-President, Jerry John Rawlings, and the National Organizer-aspirant of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Kofi Adams, in recent times, professed among other things that it will be a waste of resources for anyone to contest a sitting President (referring to President Mahama).

According to The Informer’s sources, President Mahama recalled how Kofi Adams was in strong support of Mrs. Rawlings to depose President John Atta Mills in the 2011 Sunyani congress as Flagbearer of the NDC.

With the activities of the NDC’s 2011 Sunyani congress fresh on the mind of President Mahama and the instrumental role played by Kofi Adams, the President, according to this paper’s intelligence sources at the Flagstaff House, has decided to treat the crusade being championed by Kofi Adams in his support with scorn.

The source quoted the President as saying, “if the late Mills had lost in the Sunyani Congress, he wouldn’t have been where he is today; since there was no way Nana Konadu would have picked him as her running-mate."

“In fact, the President, politically savvy, has seen through the hypocrisy on the part of Kofi Adams and has said that he will not be swayed by his comments,” the source added.

According to one source, President Mahama unequivocally stated that he will not be swayed by the hypocritical comments of the National Organizer aspirant (Kofi Adams) following his political track record.

“Kofi Adams wants to ride on the President to achieve his dream to become the National Organizer of the NDC; but will fail,” the President’s confidant pointed out.

Coincidentally, persons who have been following the NDC politics are in a state of shock with regards to Kofi Adams' admonition that nobody in the NDC should challenge the incumbent President at the party’s congress.

They also believe that Kofi Adams should not be the one advising NDC members on that score following the role played in support of the boss’ wife (Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings) to become the party’s 2012 flagbearer.

“What made him believe that Ghanaians will take him serious; when his agenda to get Nana Konadu elected at the 2011 Sunyani congress would have also affected President Mahama,” they ask.

Kofi Adams last week was reported to have expressed regret for supporting his madam (Nana Konadu) against the late President John Evans Atta Mills.

According to media reports, the apologetic Kofi Adams stated that he has learnt a great lesson from his actions and vowed not to support any candidate in the NDC to contest President Mahama.

Even though Kofi Adams will be considered to be confessing his sins, many political watchers hold the view that his plea is indeed a misplaced one, having soiled his hands with the kind of plans he hatched to topple President Mills as flagbearer and subsequently make him a one term president.
