Mr. Michael Teye Nyaunu, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament (MP) for Lower Manya, has confirmed that he would contest the Constituency seat as an Independent Candidate in the upcoming December polls.

He said rumours going round the constituency that he had rescinded his decision to go independent and was throwing his support behind the NDC candidate, Mr. Ebenezer Okletey Terlabi was not true.

Mr. Nyaunu therefore urged all his supporters to be resolute and rally behind him to retain the seat as an independent candidate.

The MP disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency in a telephone interview at Odumase Krobo on Saturday.

He said the national leadership of the NDC had warned that any member who contested as independent candidate would be expelled from the party but he was not perturbed by that threat.

Mr. Nyaunu said he would win the seat and prove a point to the NDC leadership that the people of Lower Manya were not fed up with him as they claimed.

According to Mr. Nyaunu, he was ready to face any sanctions that the party would mete out to him.

“I will be contesting as an independent candidate and will break away from the party” adding “I do not care about the sanctions that will come from the party,” he emphasized.

Mr. Nyaunu earlier this year lost the NDC primary to Mr. Terlabi and after his defeat, accused the whole government machinery of resourcing his opponent to win the primary.

Mr. Nyaunu said he visited the constituency recently only to hear that he had decided to rescind his decision in the interest of the NDC and accused supporters of Mr. Terlabi for spreading the rumours.**
