In a dramatic courtroom revelation, businessman Richard Jakpa declared Attorney-General Godfred Yeboah Dame as his 'sworn enemy'.
This declaration comes on the back of Jakpa's testimony on meetings with Dame, which were intended to negotiate his discharge from the ambulance procurement trial, but instead led to him being included to the list of accused persons.
Under cross-examination by Yvonne Attakorah Obuobisa, the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), Jakpa disclosed that he had provided documents to the Attorney-General as part of their agreement, which he believes were used to fortify the prosecution's case against him.
However, the DPP countered Jakpa's claims, stating that the prosecution had already filed the mentioned documents five months before his meeting with the A-G.
Jakpa recounted the broken assurances from Dame, which occurred at the residence of his cousin, Justice Yonny Kulendi. He described his shock when the promise was not kept, leading to a confrontation with Justice Kulendi via WhatsApp messages.
The situation escalated when Jakpa declared a personal vendetta against the A-G, vowing to use his 'underworld skills' in retaliation for what he perceives as an unjust attempt to deprive him of his liberty.
“... I told the two of them that he, A-G is a lawyer, he is using his law skills and knowledge to take my liberty away from me unjustly and I’m also going to use my underworld skills to pay him and deal with him. I said use what you know best in your law and I’ll also use what I know best on the street and will see who will survive.
“So, I am concerned there is a war between the two of us whether I’m jailed or acquitted. Because he’s trying to jail me and take my liberty as a citizen, he has caused me pain, destroyed my reputation and stripped me of everything I have worked for over decades and that cannot be paid by an acquittal because of the judge that is adjudicating the trial. He and my cousin tried to calm me down, but the battle line had already been drawn.” Jakpa told the court.
He emphasised that the bad faith exhibited by the A-G led him to declare Godfred Dame as a sworn eternal enemy.
“It was that day and that night that I declared war on the A-G. I told him that any man who deliberately decides to take the liberty of another man without any justifiable cause would never be my friend till eternity,” he said.
