I would be the last person to divide NPP - Alan

Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, an aspirant in the forthcoming NPP presidential contest, has reiterated that he will be the last person to divide the NPP.

According to him, as a founding member of the NPP in 1992, he does not see why he should divide the party at the crucial moment of the party’s life.

He said because of his love for the party in 2007, he did not allow the party to go for a second round when none of the 17 aspirants was not able to make the mark at the party’s presidential elections held at the University of Ghana, Legon; he just accepted the results for Akufo-Addo to lead the party.

“Having committed and invested literally my life, energy, resources, part of my professional life to support the party to grow, I have invested in this party so much I would be the last person to turn round to destabilise the party,” he noted.

He revealed this when he interacted with journalists in Sunyani as part of his four-day campaign tour of the Brong Ahafo Region.

He urged those who speak for him to be decorous in their campaign. He further noted that they should look at the way he does his politics and do the same.

Mr Kyerematen noted that the NPP has the formula to take the country from the current economic crisis.

“The country needs a plan for national recovery and reconstruction to deal with the decline in the value of the cedi, arrest the level of inflation, initiate policies to bring the level of interest rate down to make the private sector more competitive, and also reduce government borrowing to reduce budget deficit,” he noted.

Touching on the economy of the country, he said the Bank of Ghana exchange rate must come down to a single digit so that the private sector can borrow more to expand to create more jobs.

He also noted that the private sector also needs tax holidays in order to expand to create more jobs for the teeming unemployed graduates.
