ICT centres to be established in Awutu-Senya

Awutu Bawjiase(C/R), April 18, GNA - Information, Communication Technology (ICT) centres are to be established at strategic locations to serve schools in the newly created Awutu-Senya District.

The centres, which will be accessible to schools, are temporary measures to solve the teaching and learning of ICT which is compulsory under the Education Reform Programme.

Mr. Solomon Abbam Quaye, District Chief Executive, said this at an open-day organized by Bawjiase St. Andrew Anglican Junior High School at Bawjiase.

Mr Abbam Quaye appealed to citizens of the area to donate computers, books and other teaching and learning materials to schools since the government alone could not afford everything needed for quality teaching and learning. He expressed concern about destruction of school materials such as tables, desks windows and doors by people from the communities and appealed to arent/teacher associations to be watchdogs over the schools.

Mr Daniel Kwaku Arhin, District Director of Education, expressed concern about people's discrimination against public schools saying whilst parents were prepared to pay high fees for their students in private schools and provide them with their needs the same parents would deny their children who are in public schools their needs. "Pay equal attention to your children in public and private schools", he said.

Nai Kwao Otuo IV, Chief of Awutu Mankessim and Ankobeahene of Awutu traditional Area, called on parents to invest in their children's education. Madam Margaret Tettey, Headmistress of the school, appealed to the district assembly to complete the building for the second stream which was started about three years ago to alleviate the accommodation problem facing the school. She said the school needed additional furniture for students and teachers.

Madam Tettey noted with concern lack of toilet facility in the school, a situation she described as very embarrassing and appealed for equipment for the home science and sports departments.
