A specialist surgeon at the Korle-Bu Teaching hospital has lamented bitterly about conditions affecting productivity at the Intensive Care Unit of the hospital, revealing that it has only 4 beds.

Dr. Hadi Mohammed Abdallah, on The Late Afternoon Show on GhOne TV on Monday, disclosed the reasons why brain tumour patients have had to remain on the theatre waiting list for over a year, attributing it the unit’s inability to cater for the thousands of patients that require attention, adding that it currently has only 4 beds and lacks adequate equipment to handle the number of patients from the West African sub region that come to seek medical attention.

According to Dr. Abdallah, any patient diagnosed with brain tumour is unlikely to undergo surgery until 2020 due to lack of recovery facilities. He further revealed how doctors in the ICU have been left with no other option than to spend their hard- earned monies on hospital equipment in order to save lives.

He further reiterated the expertise and dedication of Ghanaian doctors in the management of these diseases, admonishing citizens to have faith in them, whiles holding government officials accountable.
