IFJ invites entries for Journalism for Tolerance Prize awards

Accra, Jan 5, GNA - The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) has requested for entries for the 2003 IFJ Journalism for Tolerance Prize, aimed at rewarding excellence in journalism that promotes tolerance in developing countries.

The prize also aims at combating racism and discrimination, contributing to an understanding of cultural, religious and ethnic differences.

A release issued in Accra and signed by Mr Bright Blewu, General Secretary of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), on Monday said the dead line for entries was February 27, 2004 and that no entry fee was required.

The prize, which is supported by the European Union, is awarded in five regions including Western and Central Africa, Eastern and Southern Africa, Latin America, South Asia and South-East Asia. It is open to print/on-line, radio and television journalists and photographers, employed by the local media in the countries of the five regions.

According to the statement all entries must have been published or broadcast through media outlets in the 12 months from January 1 to December 2003.

It explained that each region would have a total pool of 3,000 euro to award their winners and finalists who would also receive certificates of recognition.
