IGP condemns murder of Police Constable in Kumasi

Kumasi, Sept. 20, GNA - Mr Paul Tawiah Quaye, Inspector General of Police (IGP), has condemned the killing of Constable Frank William Blankson of the Police Striking Force, at Danyame in Kumasi on the midnight of Sunday September 18, while on night patrol. The IGP expressed his condolences to the family of the Police Officer and said the act was shameful. The IGP made the condemnation when he led a team from the Police Administration to visit Kumasi on Monday, to have first hand information about the murder of Constable Blankson.

The Police in Kumasi has arrested seven people, four of them being females, suspected to be members of an armed robbery gang that shot and killed the 23-year-old Police Constable. Constable Blankson was on night patrol duty at the vicinity, where members of the public were reportedly attacked by the armed robbers, who normally ride unregistered motorbikes. was shot dead while one was also injured. Mr Quaye regretted that hooliganism, lawlessness and rowdism was assuming a new trend in society and said this must stop to pave way for national development.

The IGP, who had earlier met with the Ashanti Regional Police Command, an occasion, which also attracted General Officer Commanding the Northern Command, Brigadier General C.J. Ocran also with his team, visited the crime scene and the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital where the body of the Police Officer had been deposited. Mr Quaye called on the Police to intensify efforts at clamping down on criminal activities. The IGP stressed that the Police would not relent in its efforts to bring the killers of the Police Officer to book. He hailed the late Constable Blankson for his bravery and nationalism.
