Mr Ernest Owusu-Poku, Inspector General of Police, on Sunday ordered a halt to all service activities of the Christ Apostolic Church International at Osu following the outbreak of violence between a section of the Ga youth and members of the church.

The irate youth had accused the church members of defying the traditional ban on drumming and noise making imposed by the Ga Traditional Council last week.

Mr Owusu-Poku, who was at the scene, advised the church members to go home and promised to secure the premises for some time.

"Police authorities will not allow any lawlessness in the city and thorough investigations will be conducted into the matter," he said.

A combined team of police and military personnel later arrived at the scene to enforce the order.

A military officer later told newsmen that his men had come to assist the police and not to take over their duties.
