General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) Johnson Asiedu Nketia has said he cannot fathom why the Inspector General of Police (IGP) COP David Asante Apeatu persecutes Member of Parliament for Asutifi South, Hon. Collins Dauda whenever the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is in power.

According to him, the IGP’s incomprehensible action suggests that he has a personal problem with the long serving Legislator, wondering if the two might be fighting over one woman.

The police on Tuesday invited Collins Dauda to their headquarters in Accra to assist an ongoing investigation into an alleged attack on a resident of Kenyasi.

He reportedly turned himself in to the police headquarters in Accra, after which he was questioned, cautioned and granted self-recognizance bail.

But the Minority NDC in Parliament claimed Mr. Daudu’s house was raided by the police in “Rambo-style” describing it as unacceptable for an MP to be treated in that manner.

But the Ghana Police Service maintained that its personnel adopted lawful procedure in inviting Collins Dauda.

Commenting on the development on Asempa FM, Asiedu Nketia popularly known as General Mosquito said the IGP’s consistent harassment of Hon. Collins Dauda is a great concern and must be roundly condemned.

“I don’t know if Asante-Apeatu [IGP] and Collins Dauda have been fighting over one woman. Because whenever the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is in power, he arrests Collins Dauda. During President Kufuor’s regime, COP Asante Apeatu arrested Collins Dauda that he had gone to pass in front of then sitting President’s house.

Today, he [Collins Dauda] is minding his business at his constituency and the same person has ordered for his arrest. So we don’t know if the IGP has a person problem with Hon. Collins Dauda,” Asiedu Nketia said.
