IGP promises to end police housing problems

As part of the police administration’s plans and preparations ahead of the 2016 general elections, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) has directed the Upper East Regional command to engage all stakeholders including youth groups, opinion leaders, political parties’ leaders, the media and traditional leaders in a series of dialogue to address potential issues that could pose threat to the November 7 general elections.

Mr. John Kudalor gave the directive when he addressed personnel of the service and the media in Bolgatanga as part of his first official visit to the Upper East Region since assuming office as the IGP last year.

Mr. Kudalor assured the police personnel that their welfare was paramount to his administration and therefore, he would ensure that the major problem confronting them, which is lack of accommodation and logistics, would be properly addressed before the November elections.

He, however, cautioned the men in black not to engage in partisan politics, as it has the potential to impact negatively on their performance as professionals.

Mr. Kudalor indicated that the main purpose of his visit was to put in place proactive measures to ensure peaceful general elections come November 7. Meanwhile, the Upper East Regional Police Commander, DCOP Simon Afeku has indicated that the crime rate in the region had assumed a downward trend due to measures put in place by his outfit.
