IGP visits crime prone areas in Ho

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr Mohammed Alhassan, Tuesday visited crime prone areas in the Ho Municipal area.

The visit was necessitated by rising crime in the Volta Regional capital for which reason Asogli Chiefs in Ho last week threatened to send their warriors to the street to take over security.

The IGP said the town was expanding fast with communities sprawling at the outskirts, and promised to provide motorbikes to make police more mobile.

He also instructed the Regional Command to establish more police tent cities and improve on police visibility.

“It is good I came. I can’t imagine how fast communities are sprawling here. It is so large but we will do our best to improve police visibility all over,” Mr Mohammed said.

Mr Mohammed also visited Togbe Adzie Lakle Howusu,Warlord of Asogli and pledged the readiness of the Police to work with the people to improve security in the town.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Rev. David Ampah-Bennin, in charge of Police Public Affairs Unit, called for police/community collaboration to maintain peace and order in Ho.

Togbe Howusu commended the IGP for the quick response after the chiefs raised concerns over the security of the town and said they were prepared to work with the police to curb armed robbery in the Regional capital.

He appealed to the Regional Police Command to work to bridge the gap between it and the chiefs and the people.

The IGP earlier paid a courtesy call on Mr Francis Ganyaglo, Deputy Volta Regional Minister, ahead of a forum at the instance of the Volta Regional Coordinating Council towards enhancing the security of Ho.

Mr Ganyaglo called for the establishment of more police posts in the Municipal area.
