Founding President of IMANI Ghana – a Policy Think Tank – Franklin Cudjoe, has said recent happenings in the country are indicative of the President’s loss of control on the economy.

“I don’t think the presidency has any strong hold on the economy. I think that everything has gone awry”, Cudjoe fumed in an interview on the Starr Midday news Monday.

According to him, the president’s assurance that the current IMF bailout being considered by Ghana will be the last time the West African country seeks such assistance from the Bretton Woods institution must be backed by action rather than rhetoric.

“I want to believe that if the president wants to tell us that this may be the last IMF programme, then charity begins at home. I don’t want to wake up and hear another scam. It’s becoming too many too much”.

The IMANI boss believes the President can show commitment to his words by putting a moratorium on new contracts being signed by the government.

“I would want to believe the president only when I see a moratorium on projects and all the contracts that are being signed under the cover of darkness”.

President John Mahama has assured that Ghana may never go back to the IMF after the expiration of the three-year programme yet-to-be undertaken by his government.
