Communication’s Director of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Solomon Nkansah is alleging that the Electoral Commission’s (EC) voter registration direction that will allow a registered voter to guarantee for five people who have difficulty proving their citizenship was a decision backed by the Inter Party Advisory Committee (IPAC).
Such decision, Nkansah insists has the consent of the various political parties who contributed for it to be considered as a valid measure towards the exercise.
“The EC don’t just get up to create CI; I’m aware that the EC discussed whatever issues with us [political parties]. What we have agreed that is what the EC is using as the direction for election 2016. Why this hue and cry? He questioned while reacting to the development on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.3 FM Thursday.
He claimed nothing would have stopped the opposition NPP from issuing a press statement to kick against the implementation of the EC’s proposal, if it didn’t agree with the decision.
But the Director of Elections of the opposition NPP, Martin Agyei Mensah Korsah in response to the allegations made by the NDC communicator said Nkansah’s take on the issue is flawed.
“I’m wondering why he will be pontification on IPAC’s decision when he’s not a member. It is not something that has even come up at IPAC. This element which has generated this controversy is already captured in the current CI 72 which is being reviewed. It’s not a newly introduced aspect of the voter registration; this is an already existing regulation, and part of the bogus procedures we used in the 2012 registration, which we’re this time seeking to modify.”
