A staff member of the United States Embassy in Ghana was reportedly pickpocketed of his valuables during the massively attended ShattaFest concert held at the Black Star Square (Independence Square) on Saturday, October 18, 2025.
The victim, identified only as Greg, said he lost GH¢8,000 in cash, an iPhone 16, and several credit cards in what he described as an “aggressive” crowd situation during the event.
“I knew it was going to be busy, yeah. I didn’t know it was going to be aggressive where I would get tackled and people taking stuff out of my pockets and taking my money,” he said in a video shared by Thekssnews.
According to Greg, the incident occurred while he was attempting to move closer to the stage area amid a dense crowd of concertgoers.
“They took my phone, they took 8,000 in cash, they took all my credit cards and my ID.
“I work at the embassy, so I will be reporting this to the security officer on Monday. I’m not going to mess around with this,” he said.

The official, who said he attended the event with his girlfriend, explained that the chaos caused her to fall during the scuffle.
“If my ID shows up in this city, whoever took it, don’t get busted,” he cautioned.
The ShattaFest concert, headlined by Shatta Wale, drew thousands of fans from across the country and abroad, marking one of the biggest music events of 2025 in Accra.
