ISD being equipped for public education

Suhum, April 6, GNA - The government was ordering 150 cinema vans alongside other public education equipment for the Information Services Department(ISD) in its efforts to ensure effective public education on government policies and obtaining feed-back from them.

The state-of-the-art equipment, which are expected to be delivered with the vans by September, this year, would be distributed to each of the 128 districts which are also to be well-staffed in line with the government's policy of promoting good governance.

The Eastern Regional Information Officer, Mr Edwin Appeaning, who announced this at the People's Assembly at Suhum on Wednesday, in reaction to a resident's call on government to ensure effective government-public interaction and the implementation of national policies.

He said the bids for the importation of the vans and equipment was being opened for the importation while the recruitment of staff for the districts had began.

The Eastern Regional Minister, Mr Yaw Barimah, mentioned a number of policies the government was implementing, saying under the Youth Employment Programme (YEP), every district would engage 500 youths in various employment sectors including agri-business, vocational training, community protection and computer training.

The District Chief Executive for Suhum/Kraboa/Coaltar, Mr Michael Mensah, outlined a number of development projects undertaken by the assembly over the past five years and called on the people to support government's polices, including the District Mutual Health Insurance. A resident called on the Metro Mass Transport Company (MMT) to operate the buses on a time basis instead of waiting to be filled at the terminals in order to be more useful for commuters, especially school children and workers.

Another complained about the numerous drugs under the National Health Insurance Drug list which patient/premium holders were being asked to purchase outside the local hospitals, which was creating more hardships to them.

A teacher called for the immediate introduction of an incentive package for teachers to motivate them to cope with the demands of the Capitation Grant. 06 April 06
