ISD embarks on public education campaign on government policies

Koforidua, Dec. 9, GNA - The Eastern Regional office of the Information Services Department (ISD) has embarked on a two-week public education campaign on some major government policies and programmes in the region from Friday.

The issues, which would be highlighted during the period include the 2006 Budget Statement, the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), basic schools Capitation Grant and the computerization of the selection and placement into Senior Secondary Schools. Briefing the field staff and District Information Officers at Koforidua on Thursday, the Regional Information Officer, Mr E.H. Appeaning, said there would be four cinema van teams to undertake the campaign expected to cover 300 towns and villages in all the 17 districts of the region.

Other important topics to be included are bush fire setting, the re-launched joint military/police operations against armed robbery and Fulani herdsmen, deforestation through illegal chain saw operations, paying of taxes and levies, among others.

Mr Appeaning asked the teams to endeavour to explain the technical terms to the level of understanding of the people in the local languages.

He reminded them that the people need to know the important contents of the budget statement to appreciate the government's efforts to improve their living standards for them to supplement with their contribution for successful implementation.

The Regional Information Officer also asked the officers to take note of the people's views, suggestions and questions for the attention of the authorities.
