Manso-Nkwanta(Ash), April 29, GNA - Reverend Father John Dwobeng Adusei, Parish Priest of Manso-Nkwanta Saint Francis Catholic Church, has commended management of Information Service Department (ISD) for adopting a mature and refined way to educate the public on the currency re-denomination exercise.

He was optimistic that by the end of the exercise, most rural dwellers especially farmers and traders would have understood the re-denomination.

Rev. Fr. Adusei made the commendation when officials of ISD organised a forum on the re-denomination of the cedi for about 2,000 Catholics at Manso-Nkwanta in the Amansie West District of Ashanti at the weekend.

Mr Paul Antwi Mensah, Ahafo Ano North District Information Officer explained the rational behind the re-denomination. He said both currencies would be in circulation for six months and the old currency would cease to be a legal tender after December 31 but could be changed at any commercial bank in the country. Mr Mensah warned the public to be wary of people who would defraud them and inspect prices of commodities and goods that would be displayed on them from May this year.

He urged the people to keep the new currency notes clean and deposit their monies at the bank for business transactions. The people called for the immediate printing of posters, pamphlets and specimen of the currency for the public. They also appealed to the management of Bank of Ghana as a matter of urgency to make available video clips on the new currency for the pubic at communities visited by the ISD Cinema vans. The ISD Cinema Vans has toured all the 21 administrative metropolitan, municipal and districts in the Ashanti Region to sensitise the public on the re-denomination.
