"If 275 MPs make laws for Ghana, 740 delegates can make me Prez"

Out of the 740 delegates who voted during the New Patriotic Party’s Super Delegates Congress, 598 of them voted massively for Nana Akufo-Addo.

As the party prepares to face the final hurdle in naming a flagbearer on October 18th, Nana Akufo-Addo is rest assured the delegates would once again renew his mandate as flagbearer for the party.

But some have predicted that although Nana Akufo-Addo won by a landslide during the August contest, he would find it extremely difficult to repeat the same feat as 140,000 delegates will queue to cast their votes during the impending congress.

In a direct answer to the doubting Thomases, Nana Akufo-Addo referred them to the power Ghana’s constitution gives to individuals who constitute the legislative arm of government.

According to him, if 230 parliamentarians are allowed to make laws for a country with a population of 24 million; then his opponents must get the message the 598 voters sent to them recently.

Addressing a gathering at the Hotel Georgia in Kumasi, Nana Akufo-Addo reiterated that the resounding victory who recorded represent the views of the masses who are looking forward to have him elected as flagbearer and ultimately crowned as president.

Also speaking at the event was the former Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Mr. Robert Yaw Amankwah.

He stated that over the years, Nana Akufo-Addo had proven loyal and committed to the ideals of the NPP, and as a former chairman of the party in the Ashanti Region who remains in constant touch with the grassroots, he is in no doubt that “Nana Akufo-Addo is the choice of the grassroot supporters of the party and the Ghanaian populace at large.”

Present at the event were, amongst others, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, 2008 and 2012 running mate to Nana Akufo-Addo; Hon. Osei Kyei-Mensa-Bonsu, Minority Leader in Parliament and MP for Suame; F.F. Anto, 3rd National NPP Vice Chairman; Hon. Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, MP for Kwadaso; Hon. Isaac Asiamah, MP for Atwima Mponua; Hon. Elizabeth Agyeman, Chairperson of NPP parliamentary caucus from the Ashanti region and MP for Oforikrom; Hon. Osei Assibey Antwi, former deputy Regional Minister; Stephen Ntim, former NPP 1st National Vice Chairman; Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, former General Secretary of the NPP; Dr. Nsiah Asare, former CEO of Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital; 15 regional executives; and 47 constituency chairmen.
