The opposition National Democratic Congress has challenged President Nana Akufo Addo to create the jobs he promised Ghanaians instead of sacking young innocent ones for political reasons.

The NDC at a press conference on Thursday slammed the Akufo Addo administration for the “wanton dismissal” and “politically motivated mass transfers of public sector workers”deemed to be NDC sympathisers, describing his move a sign of an “already-failing Government.”

“It is not for a president, who claims to be father for all, to be sacking people perceived to belong to a certain political party and replacing them with his boys,” the chairman of the party Kofi Portuphy told ghanaguardian.com

“He promised to create jobs, what has happened to the jobs he promised Ghanaians.

“If you want to give jobs to your boys, create the some and put your people there. It is not by sacking other people.

“The wanton dismissal and politically motivated mass transfers will not be allowed to continue in the capricious manner in which it has begun.”

The then candidate Akufo Addo, during the 2016 election campaign, promised to ensure the growth of the national economy and the creation of the jobs will be the ‘twin goals’ of his government.

However, since assuming power on January 7, the NPP has embarked on mass transfers and dismissal of some heads of institutions, a move the NDC described as “dangerous for the country”.

In may Over 100 workers at the DVLA, believed to be part o part of the last minute appointment by the previous government, was asked to go home.

Their dismissal came hours after the Medical Director of the Ridge Hospital, Dr Thomas Awuni Anaba was transferred to another facility while the Corporate Affairs Director of the Ghana Gas Company, Alfred Ogbamey was also the dismissed.

The NDC has however argued the dismissed employees got their jobs on merit and not because of political considerations, asking the president to be the “father for all” he promised.

Going to the balance sheet

The NDC In critiquing the six-month-old Akufo Addo, Bawumia government, says the activities of the NPP is awash with arrogance, lies and dishonesty.

“The NPP promised the good people of this country that when they come they will create jobs for all Ghanaians, today let go us to the balance sheet and see how many jobs have been created and how many people have lost their jobs as a result of NPP’s rule in six months,” the NDC’s director of election in the 2016 elections Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo challenged.

“They have gone to the extent and callously even removed city guards, revenue collectors, security people, sweepers and others. So if you can’t create employment, why are you also throwing people out of jobs in six months.”

The former local government minister further accused President Akufo Addo of “polarising the nation at a rate that is unprecedented.”
