If you were competent, Akufo-Addo wouldn't have sacked you - Murtala Muhammed slams Miracles Aboagye

Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, the Member of Parliament for Tamale Central, has been dismissive of Dennis Miracles Aboagye’s assertion on the Office of Special Prosecutor’s findings on the Airbus scandal that cleared John Dramani Mahama, the Presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress, of any wrongdoing.

In an interview with Class FM, Murtala Muhammed opined that the spokesperson for the Bawumia 2024 campaign is a failed appointee of the Akufo-Addo government.

According to him, Miracles Aboagye was dismissed as a Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Akuapem North and therefore his view ought to be treated with contempt.

“Miracles Aboagye was sacked as DCE, yet he was appointed to advise the Ministry of Local Government. Isn't that strange? Whatever he writes, I won't even give a jot about it. He was sacked as an MCE and later appointed as advisor to the Minister of Local Government. If he was competent, they'd have left him to work for the district that needed him so much. What he tweets or writes, I will never give a jot about it,” he said.

Kissi Agyebeng, Special Prosecutor, said at a news conference in Accra on Thursday, August 8, that the Office found “no evidence” that former President John Mahama and other individuals linked to the investigation were paid bribes for the aircraft purchase.

He said that there was no proof that Mr Mahama or other officials were “induced” to select Airbus for the aircraft deal.

“The OSP found no evidentiary basis that suggests that former President John Dramani Mahama or any other public official was induced to improperly favour or did improperly favour Airbus in respect of the purchase by the Government of Ghana of military transport aircraft from Airbus.

“Also, the OSP found no evidentiary basis that suggests that Samuel Adam Foster (also known as Samuel Adam Mahama), Philip Sean Middlemiss, and Leanne Sarah Davis received payments from Airbus with the intention of bribing former President John Dramani Mahama or any other public official,” the Special Prosecutor noted.

Miracles Aboagye, in his reaction to the OSP's disclosure, noted that the Airbus scandal brought Ghana significant shame and that Ghanaians must not allow such a thing to happen again.

“Finally, the country gets to know who Government Official 1 is…. It took a while, but now we know. It brought global shame, but we shall surely get out of it. Never again should we put our country in the hands of a leader who brings such global shame,” he wrote on Facebook on Thursday, August 8, while commenting on the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) report that identified John Mahama as Government Official One.
