The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has descended heavily on the General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Aseidu Nketia, describing his comments about the party’s petition at the Supreme Court as useless and rude.
The NDC chief scribe has reportedly labeled the NPP’s legal team as bunch of “blockheads” who have little understanding of the 1992 Constitution.
A Deputy Communications Director of the NPP, Sammy Awuku, told Citi FM in Accra that Mr Aseidu Nketia’s comment was borne out of ignorance, and therefore, must be treated with the contempt its deserves.
“I am really surprised that the NDC considers this a backward step by the NPP. It’s borne out of ignorance and it also shows clearly that he doesn’t appreciate the positions in our constitution. … It is a case of ignorance on the part of the NDC,” Mr Awuku added.
He affirmed that there is no provision in the Constitution which bars individuals from filling a suit against the president.
“This is the same Asiedu Nketia who up till now has been against the founder of his own party [Jerry John Rawlings]; a man who changed his lifestyle from a pauper to a star, please ignore him,” he added.
The NPP has petitioned the Supreme Court challenging the results of the December 7 and 8 presidential elections, and accused the Electoral Commission (EC) and President Mahama of fraud.
