Ignore NPP; Ashanti region is not on fire – Anyidoho

Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Koku Anyidoho says there is absolute peace in the Ashanti region contrary to reports that there have been heightened tension across the region following issues with the ongoing limited registration exercise.

Anyidoho told host Fiifi Banson on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.3 FM that albeit the pocket of incidences in the exercise, the region is not on fire as claimed by the largest opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).

A member of the NPP Ashanti regional security team, Frank Kwadwo Duodu insists the Ashanti region has been a scene of chaos as members of the ruling NDC are deliberately set to scare away people from taking part in the registration exercise.

“We’re advising ourselves in the second phase of the exercise, and as such we’ll not sit aloof while the NDC dispatch thugs to disrupt this democratic process. We’ll defend ourselves and stop the violence being perpetrated by the NDC.

“It is regrettable that the President who should be the father for all will come and hold meetings here in the Ashanti region and day after he’ll leave the jurisdiction you’ll see the NDC thugs unleash troubles in registration centres.

I’ve witnessed a case where their Deputy Chief of Staff, Johnny Osei Kofi instructed men to destruct the process and create violence denying us of a smooth process. We will not allow this to happen in our stronghold, if the leadership of the NDC is not ready to call their people to order,” Kwadwo Duodu cautioned on Kasapa 102.3 FM Tuesday.

But the deputy chief scribe in denial of the claims of the alleged violence in the Ashanti region said the isolated cases of skirmishes does not portray the place as a near war zone, insisting that those are issues that were being managed at various centres.

“The problem with the NPP now is that their own chairman has become a fugitive. He went to beat up Collins Amankwa, the incumbent MP and the Police have declared him wanted, which they want to do something to wipe the shame that is coming at them.

“There is no chaos, war or civil strife here for the NPP to take the laws into their own hands as they will want to suggest. It is an over exaggeration of the things happening here. And I must commend the police for doing a perfect job by handling issues professionally.”
